DRAIG International has used custom engineering in its design of the overall control system for the power station. This came from detailed research of relevant technologies used in conventional power stations built around the World. It was obvious that power stations such as Pecem in Brazil were making use of computer technology to operate the SCADA control room, this interestingly enough did not prevent some glaring breaches of safety procol, especially on the steam turbine oil bearings. So learning from this type of error, a new custom design has been implemented to ensure that normal running control, is supplemented by a safety system in each process area.
Custom Engineering
A system of control panels will be mounted on each skid that houses the equipment. Each container will be manufactured out of stainless steel, with a high grade insulation material such as super-wool 1250 put between wall skins. This ensures heat stays out, or in, depending where in the World it has been delivered. For hotter regions, the skid will have a climate control system to maintain +5 to +30 centigrade. Another design feature is the roof canopy, that keeps the pipes and cables out of direct sunlight, and also protects the container. Therefore each container is climate controlled for optimum operating conditions for the equipment fitted on each skid. At the same time each skid is controlled by a Draig designed microprocessor based system, utilising the latest top of the range 144pin ARM cortex processor, that follows communication protocols and adds a layer of safety protocols and two levels of emergency stops (high and low).
The Most Modern Burner Technology
Industrial low voltage PC's are used, backed up by UPS systems to prevent brownout conditions from occurring. This provides a high level of sophistication in control and allows SCADA control. The 19 inch touchscreen HMI display interface in the DRAIG Burner is also computerised, and runs in a standby capacity for the dual control system and controller redundancy. This allows the DRAIG burner operator to make local adjustments to the Draig Burner operating parameters, dual inputting is prevented by prioritised coded operations. Full SCADA facilities are available at the DRAIG Burner control panel with multiple scrollable screens, but the control room with a two person operating console and four 50inch large display tv monitors can be accessed remotely by the Owner or DRAIG Engineers for remote control of the power station or support. This describes a fully functioning 50MWe power station including back-up systems.
